Center Connor McDavid had two goals to help the Edmonton Oilers defeat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 in a preseason game at Rogers Place on Thursday.

McDavid, playing in his first game since being named the youngest captain in NHL history on Wednesday, scored his first goal of the preseason at 5:16 of the first period to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. He made it 3-1 at 3:51 of the third with his second goal of the game.
Forwards Pat Maroon, Mark Letestu and Tyler Pitlick also scored and goalie Jonas Gustavsson made 22 saves for Edmonton.
Oilers forward Drake Caggiula left the game in the second period and did not return.
Goalie Cam Talbot allowed a goal on the only shot he faced while Gustavsson left briefly in the second because of an equipment issue.
Jets forwards Bryan Little and Brandon Tanev scored and goalie Connor Hellebuyck allowed five goals on 32 shots.
