Michael Grabner had an empty feeling in the New York Rangers'
5-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes
on Friday, but he wasn't complaining.
Grabner became the first Rangers player in the NHL's expansion era (since 1967-68) to score two empty-net goals in the same game. They completed the fifth hat trick (and first natural hat trick) of his NHL career. He's the first Rangers player to have a natural hat trick since Marian Gaborik did it on Jan. 31, 2010, at the Colorado Avalanche, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Grabner's three-goal game
was the 28th hat trick in the NHL this season; that's the most through 395 games since 2010-11, when there were 33.
Hats off to Grabner, Rangers
