It's a lot easier to score goals in the NHL without the opposing goalie in the crease. Just ask New York Rangers forward Michael Grabner.

Grabner rang up a natural hat trick in the Rangers' 5-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden on Friday by scoring not one, but two empty-net goals.
He started off by beating Hurricanes goalie Scott Darling at 1:52 of the second period, putting the Rangers up 2-1. But the fun was just beginning.
The Rangers still led 2-1 late in the third period when Carolina pulled Darling for an extra skater. Grabner made the Hurricanes pay for their gamble, beating the defense and taking a nice dish from Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh before hitting the empty net from the left circle at 17:47.
The Hurricanes pulled Darling again; Grabner was the beneficiary of a nice feed from Boo Nieves and hit the empty net at 18:48 to complete a one-of-a-kind night and the fifth hat trick of his NHL career.
