"That's what you want as a goalie, to make the save to win the game," said Schneider, who made four saves in overtime. "After [Boyle] got that one against [Rangers goalie Henrik] Lundqvist, I had to make sure I shut the door. Sometimes defensemen are tough because they have sneaky moves, but I tried to be aggressive against him and make him make the perfect play."

Vesey, Nick Holden and Kevin Hayes scored, and Lundqvist made a season-high 45 saves for the Rangers (19-12-4). Mika Zibanejad scored in the shootout.
"We still found a way to get a point in a game where we didn't do that many good things, I think," Lundqvist said. "But you've got to give Jersey credit; the biggest thing is it felt like they wanted it more. We just couldn't match their intensity."
The Devils pulled into a 3-3 tie in the third period when Boyle scored a power-play goal off a backhand from the slot at 11:54.
"We showed maturity; the frustration is coming from a good spot," Boyle said. "You're allowed to be frustrated a little bit because you want to help the team, want to make a difference in the game. We're getting it from a bunch of different guys and it's important to pull the rope and contribute any way you can. As far as top to bottom in our lineup, everybody did that tonight."
Boyle, who played five seasons with the Rangers (2009-14), has seven points (three goals, four assists) in the past three games.
"The satisfaction is winning," Boyle said. "This rivalry wouldn't be what it is without both fan bases, and it's been like that for a number of years. We're out to prove we're legitimate, and we have to earn that every single night."

Hayes gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead at 1:48 of the third period when he controlled a pass off the end boards from Brendan Smith at the left post and directed a shot that deflected off the right skate of defenseman Damon Severson and past Schneider.
Coleman tied the game 2-2 when he scored a shorthanded goal 16:24 into the second period.
"Some teams get frustrated but I didn't see that from us," Coleman said. "We kept coming in waves and kept emphasizing getting bodies to the net. On a night when [Lundqvist] is seeing the puck you need an ugly one."
Vesey and Holden scored in the first period to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Vesey tied the game 1-1 when a rebound deflected off his right skate past Schneider at 9:55. Holden gained position for a rebound in the slot off a shot taken by Chris Kreider to make it 2-1 at 11:59.
Moore gave the Devils a 1-0 lead at 7:22 on a snap shot from the right circle on a pass from Nico Hischier. Taylor Hall made the play possible when he delivered a hit against Zuccarello along the left-wing boards.

They said it

"We weren't good with the puck, a lot of turnovers. That's a good team with good sticks and speed that can cover a lot of ground quick. We knew that coming into it. Early on we weren't moving our feet enough and pretty much the entire game we didn't put pucks into areas where we could skate onto them." -- Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh
"When you're hot, you're hot. [Boyle's] playing with passion and with that heart and compete. He's giving himself an opportunity every night to put a puck in the net. You can see it on his face after he scores; the pure excitement of being out there, and with everything he's been through I couldn't be any more happy for him." -- Devils forward Blake Coleman
