Islanders team scope

The New York Islanders will be without Andrew Ladd and Cal Clutterbuck, each out with undisclosed injuries, when they complete a three-game road trip. New York defeated the Florida Panthers 5-2 on Friday and lost 7-4 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Islanders lost to the Hurricanes despite holding a 3-1 lead in the second period and getting two goals from center John Tavares. The loss was the Islanders' fourth in five games in January (1-2-2). "We were just too open, too many holes, and they generated a lot off of it," Tavares said after the game. "We have to execute, that's all it comes down to. They made a play, we didn't." Thomas Greiss, who allowed seven goals on 43 shots in his sixth straight start on Saaturday, will be in net.

Bruins team scope

Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller is unlikely to play. "He suffered a concussion. So he's going through the protocol right now," coach Claude Julien said Sunday. Miller was injured in a collision with Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek and the boards in the second period of a 6-3 win on Saturday. Defenseman Joe Morrow could get into the lineup for the first time since Dec. 12 (16 games). "I try and stay in the best shape I can and practice every day. So the hockey aspect of things isn't too far away from me," said Morrow, who has one assist in 13 games. "But to play in a game, I haven't played in a game in a long time, so I feel like those mistakes will be inevitable but ... I'm going to try to play pretty simple." The Bruins are 3-1-1 in their past five games and have averaged 3.8 goals per game in that span. They've moved up to 22nd in the NHL in goals per game after struggling to score for much of the season. "During the course of a year, there's ups and downs and you have to stick with it," forward Patrice Bergeron said. "And I think that's what we've done and we were generating a lot of chances and shots on net and it was a matter of finding the second and third opportunities around the net but also us bearing down on the great chances in the slot that we were getting every game."

Status report

Prince and Gionta draw into the lineup for Ladd and Clutterbuck. It will be Gionta's first game with the Islanders since signing a one-year, two-way contract on Dec. 22. ... Colin Miller skated but did not practice Sunday. He will miss his third game since he was injured Jan. 10 at the St. Louis Blues and is day to day.
