The Green Sports Alliance will present its annual Environmental Leadership Award and Environmental Innovators of the Year awards, the highlight of its
annual Green Sports Celebration
, on Wednesday evening in Sacramento.
The LA Kings will be honored for their commitment to a sustainable community.
The awards, now in their sixth year, recognize and celebrate the best in sports and sustainability. In addition, the LA Galaxy will be honored then as well.

"The LA Kings and AEG have always worked as part or core values to demonstrate leadership in these important community and global areas and we are very proud of not only our contributions to environmental sustainability but also the fact that both the Kings and the LA Galaxy are being recognized at this prestigious event," said LA Kings and AEG Sports Chief Operating Officer Kelly Cheeseman. "This is also a tribute to the leaders in our community relations and AEG Sustainability departments who have really helped us spearhead this hard work. Hat's off to these teams for their leadership."
In a statement, the Green Sports Alliance said that the LA Kings utilize fan engagement as well as service activities with charitable partners outside the arena to boost environmental knowledge and commitment. For example, during the 2016-17 NHL season, the team hosted a tri-city beach cleanup with Heal the Bay, in which 250 volunteers -- made up of fans, former players, staff and more -- removed 700 pounds of trash in just two hours. LA Kings Green is proudly supported by Waste Management.

The Green Sports Alliance leverages the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where people live and play.
The Alliance inspires professional sports leagues, sports governing bodies, colleges, teams, venues, their partners and millions of fans to embrace renewable energy, healthy food, recycling, water efficiency, safer chemicals and other environmentally preferable practices.
Alliance members now number nearly 500 organizations representing 15 leagues in 14 countries.
