Game 1 of the tournament is in the books, and so is our first win, 5-4 in the shootout over our rivals from Canada.
It was a fun, back and forth game from start to finish. They came out strong in the first and we kind of weathered the storm before finding our games. It was a nice come-from-behind win and a good way to start the tournament.

The shootout was something else, with so much skill on display from both teams. I knew I wasn't shooting so it was time to just take it in. It's really cool seeing those guys roll out there and putting on a show.
On a personal level, I felt comfortable out there against playing against and alongside some of the game's best players. I got my feet wet in the first period and then just kept playing a simple game and tried to do everything I could to contribute.
There's great players - the best players - on a nightly basis in the NHL, and it's no different at the World Championships. I'm getting the chance to play with some of the best American players in the game today, and it's great to share a bench and locker room with them. They're great guys and hopefully they'll lead us to more victories here.
Getting to know your teammates is crucial in a tournament like this. We all bring our own styles and tendencies from our teams, and without much practice time - just two team practices before the tournament began - communication is the key to any success we're going to have. We're going to get better each game as it goes on here.
After a quick postgame meal, it's back to the hotel room to watch a movie on Netflix. Tonight it's London Has Fallen. Tomorrow we're back at it with a game against the host country Denmark, in what should be a pretty great atmosphere.
