"Jones is a great up-and-down player," Hartley said. "He drives hard to the net and gets in there on the forecheck. The player who plays right wing with them, his job is to open up some room and be a net presence.
"I felt that he was skating very well. We need speed around those two guys. We need a guy who can make things happen."
Hartley said Michael Frolik will take Ferland's spot on the power play.
"I played that a little bit in Winnipeg last year, so I know what to do," said Frolik, who had three power-play goals with the Winnipeg Jets last season. "I will just try to keep it simple and be there as much as I can and make sure the goalie doesn't see the puck."
Forward Lance Bouma, who missed the past four games with a leg laceration, will return to the lineup for the Flames, who are playing the fourth of a five-game road trip.
The Hurricanes, who did not skate Sunday, have some question marks in their lineup. Defenseman Brett Pesce has been battling a lower-body injury, while forward Riley Nash was held out of Carolina's 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Friday because of an illness. Each are day-to-day.
