Dylan_Larkin_out_for_season

Dylan Larkin will be out for the remainder of the regular season for the Detroit Red Wings after having core muscle surgery Monday.

The center's recovery time is expected to be 8-10 weeks; he is expected to be ready for training camp.
Larkin had four shots in 20:29 of ice time in a 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said Larkin's injury has been bothering him for most of the season.
"I think early there was a pain management and then at some point it just became where it just felt like the right thing," Blashill said Tuesday. "I don't want to speak for Dylan, but it felt like the right thing to do for him to have it done. He tried to grind through I think as long as he could. Now hopefully he can get himself healthy and the expectation is that you might miss some training but ultimately he'll have plenty of time for that and should be ready to go next year."
Larkin leads the Red Wings with 31 goals and 69 points in 71 games. He also leads Detroit in overtime goals (three) and is tied with forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Robby Fabbri for the lead in power-play goals (six).
Larkin, who missed the final eight games last season because of a neck injury, has 358 points (147 goals, 211 assists) in 504 NHL games during seven seasons with Detroit.
"I think sometimes refresh mentally is a good thing," Blashill said. "Dylan's going to maximize the time he has to train. He's going to come into camp in great shape, he's going to have gotten better at things. That's who he is as a person and he'll be healthy and I think having that time now, it does give you a chance to mentally refresh."
The Red Wings (30-37-10) have been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention for the sixth straight season. They have five regular-season games remaining after a 4-3 win at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
"I take it personally; this is brutal," Larkin said Saturday when asked about not qualifying for the playoffs. "To be here all six years [not in the playoffs] ... it's no fun packing your bag at the end of the year. You want to be playing playoff hockey. You have to take it in, put it on yourself, make sure you have a great year next season and make sure this doesn't happen again."
Detroit recalled center Chase Pearson from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Monday. He has no points in two games with the Red Wings this season.
