Drew-Smiling-5

The NHL Network continued their
#NHLTopPlayers Right Now
by ranking the Top 20 Defensemen in the League.
And near the top of the list is Drew Doughty, the cornerstone of the LA Kings blueline.

Doughty led the NHL in total ice time (2,200:31) for the second straight season in 2017-18, which was the third time he led the league in the past four seasons.
He had double-digit goals for the third straight season (10), and his 60 points were an NHL career high. The 28-year-old was plus-23 and played all 82 games for the fourth straight season.
"For me, Drew Doughty is the total package," NHL Network's Ken Daneyko said. "He's big, he can change the game with a hit, he has the puck on his stick more than any other defenseman in the NHL, and so I always say that he changes the complexion of the game. He controls the tempo of the game. ... There's nothing he can't do."
Doughty signed an eight-year, $88 million contract extension in the offseason.

He is the second Kings player (Rob Blake in 1998) to win the Norris Trophy (league's best defenseman), as he took home the award in 2016. He has been named to four consecutive NHL All-Star Games as well and is a three-time NHL First Team All-Star (2017-18, 2015-16 and 2008-09) and a two-time NHL Second Team All Star (2014-15 and 2009-10).
During his 10-year NHL career, Doughty has appeared in 770 regular season games, and tallied 422 points (102-320=422), a plus-93 rating and 555 penalty minutes. He currently ranks second on the Kings all-time list among defensemen in goals, assists and points (trailing only Blake in all three categories), and third in games played.
