SUBBAN SCORES IN DEBUT, PREDATORS WIN OPENER

Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban, who was acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Shea Weber on June 29,
scored the Predators' first goal
in his debut with the club, a win over the rival Chicago Blackhawks.
* Subban, who won the Norris Trophy in 2013, had six goals and 51 points in 68 games for the Canadiens in 2015-16 and led Canadiens defensemen in points for six consecutive seasons before the trade.

LEGENDARY KINGS HELP CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON …

The Los Angeles Kings started their 50th anniversary season at home with a celebration recognizing players from every era, including those from the inaugural 1967-68 season, The Triple Crown Line, Luc Robitaille and Wayne Gretzky. Their game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday came on the anniversary of the first Kings' first game, a 4-2 win against the Flyers on Oct. 14, 1967.

… FLYERS SPOIL PARTY, HANG ON FOR WIN

The Flyers scored four times in the second period, including two goals by forward Sean Couturier, to take a 4-0 lead they would not relinquish in a 4-2 win against the Kings.
* The Flyers got multipoint games from Couturier (2-0-2), 19-year-old rookie forward Travis Konecny (0-2-2), who was skating in his first NHL game, and forward Nick Cousins (0-2-2).

Mike Fisher had one goal and one assist in his first game as Predators captain. … The Predators also got multipoint games from Ryan Johansen (0-3-3) and Roman Josi (1-1-2). … Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov had an assist for his first NHL point in his first game. ... AUSTON MATTHEWS MAKES HOME DEBUT AS MAPLE LEAFS CELEBRATE CENTENNIAL

Auston Matthews, who became the first player in the modern era (1943-44) of the NHL to score four times in his first NHL game Wednesday, will play his first home NHL regular-season game at Air Canada Centre when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins in a game televised nationally in Canada ("Hockey Night in Canada" on CBC) and the United States (NBCSN). "HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA" RETURNS WITH FOUR GAMES

"Hockey Night in Canada" returns Saturday with four games featuring six Canadian teams, including the Bruins playing at the Maple Leafs. The Canadiens play the Ottawa Senators in an all-Canadian match-up on CITY; Patrik Laine, the second pick of the 2016 NHL Draft who had one goal and one assist in his NHL debut Thursday, and the Winnipeg Jets play the Minnesota Wild on SN1. The Flames play at the Vancouver Canucks on CBC.
