Nathan-MacKinnon

CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon skated Monday for the first time since sustaining an upper-body injury Jan. 30.
He was on the ice before practice in a non-contact jersey.

MacKinnon was seen grabbing his left shoulder after a hit on Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler in the second period of a 4-3 overtime loss, and Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Feb. 1 that he would be out 2-4 weeks.
"There's no change on MacKinnon at this point," coach Jared Bednar said. "We've given the timetable and if anything changes on that we'll let you know. It's just him wanting to get on the ice and skate, still use his legs. He's got the upper-body injury."
MacKinnon has 61 points (24 goals, 37 assists), tied with Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek for third in the NHL and five points behind NHL leader Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Avalanche are 1-3-1 since a 10-game winning streak ended Jan. 22. They enter play Monday one point behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference after finishing 30th in the League with 48 points last season.
Right wing Mikko Rantanen did not practice Monday because of an undisclosed injury and is questionable to play against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; ALT, NBCSCA. NHL.TV).
"[Rantanen] is banged up a little bit so we'll see how it feels tomorrow," Bednar said. "Not an ideal situation (to be missing two-thirds of the top line), but there's still a chance he can play so we'll see how it goes in the morning."
Rantanen is second on the Avalanche with 50 points (17 goals, 33 assists) in 51 games.
