CBJ@ANA: Fowler completes the hat trick in overtime

Cam Fowler helped put an emphatic end to the Anaheim Ducks' longest losing streak since 2005.

The defenseman's goal 36 seconds into overtime completed his first NHL hat trick and gave the Ducks a 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Honda Center on Sunday. Anaheim (6-6-3) had lost seven consecutive games (0-5-2), one behind its record of eight in a row from Oct. 12-30, 1996 and Nov. 3-20, 2005.
Fowler also became the seventh NHL defenseman, and third in Ducks history, to finish a hat trick with an overtime goal, joining
Lubomir Visnovsky
against the Dallas Stars on March 4, 2011, and Hampus Lindholm at the New York Islanders on Dec. 21, 2017.
In addition, Fowler scored the 56th goal of his NHL career to tie
Francois Beauchemin
for second place on the Ducks' all-time list among defensemen.
Scott Niedermayer
, who will have his No. 27 retired by Anaheim on Feb. 17, is first with 60.

Lightning strike 10

The Tampa Bay Lightning became the second team to reach 10 wins this season after Yanni Gourde's goal 14 seconds into overtime gave them a 4-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Sunday. The Nashville Predators (11-3-0) won their 10th game when they defeated the Lightning on Nov. 1.
The Lightning (10-3-1) are 7-0-0 against the Eastern Conference for the first time in their history. The Washington Capitals hold the NHL record with 12 straight wins (1991-92) since teams were realigned into two conferences in 1974-75. The 2001-02 Islanders won 10 in a row against Eastern opponents and the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres won nine straight. Five teams started 8-0-0, most recently the Montreal Canadiens in 2015-16.

Overtime endings

Thirty-six of the 50 games (72 percent) to require extra time this season have ended during the five-minute overtime period, the highest percentage in the shootout era (since 2005-06).
Thirteen of the 36 overtime goals have been scored in the opening minute, including Fowler and Gourde on Sunday, and Timo Meier (13 seconds) for the San Jose Sharks against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
