Who says you should never meet your heroes?

Penguins forward Jared McCann not only met his, but now he shares the ice with him.

McCann was 12 years old when he first met his current teammate, Patrick Marleau, a veteran of 22 NHL seasons. He got an autographed puck.

"I was really young so I was kind of starstruck," McCann said on a video call of his meeting with the longtime San Jose Sharks forward who was traded to Pittsburgh in February.

McCann said he went to an Arizona Coyotes game as a kid and they were playing the Sharks, which is where he got to meet Marleau and San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton.

McCann's parents are moving, he said, so when the puck turned up his dad made sure to send him a picture of it.

When the Stanley Cup Qualifiers begin August 1, McCann could potentially be on the same line as Marleau.

"It's pretty cool to be on his line," McCann said.
