The Colorado Avalanche are doing their part to help the healing after a mass shooting shook the nearby city of Boulder, Colorado this week.

Just a little over 25 miles outside Denver, where the Avalanche play home games, a gunman killed 10 people and injured several more at a grocery store Monday.
The team wore the special jerseys with "Boulder Strong" written across the back nameplate before their game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. Each player wore the No. 10 to honor the victims of the tragedy.
The jerseys will be autographed by players and auctioned off to benefit the Colorado Healing Fund.

"We were heartbroken when we found out the news. It was just way too close to home. I know us wearing the jerseys in the grand scheme of things maybe doesn't change a whole lot or mean much, but we just wanted to show our support," said Avalanhce captain Gabriel Landeskog. "The jerseys will be donated and the money will be used (for) the victims' families. Just a little bit of something that we can do. (It's) sickening and (we're) all heartbroken for the victims, their families, all of Boulder."
The Colorado Healing Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides victims of violence with immediate and long-term support. The organization's website is

Before the game Thursday, the Avalanche held a moment of silence for victims of the shooting and shared the 10 names in a post on Twitter.
