ANA@CGY: Drysdale calls game in OT

CALGARY --John Gibson made 41 saves, and Jamie Drysdale scored with 1:34 left in overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday.

Drysdale one-timed a pass from Troy Terry past the outstretched pad of Jacob Markstrom.
"I just tried to work my way up the ice as fast as I could, get into a shooting position," Drysdale said. "From there, Troy kind of did all the work, made a great fake, a great curl and drag and slipped it through the guy right on my tape backdoor. It was a heck of a play by him. He deserves a lot of credit for that."
Cam Fowler and Rickard Rakell scored, and Terry had two assists for the Ducks (2-1-0), who opened a four-game road trip.
"It's awesome. 'Gibby' had to make a lot of huge saves for us," Drysdale said. "He did a great job back there. When the time came, I think everyone on the bench knew we kind of step up for him and for each other, because we knew how bad we felt after last game (2-1 loss to Minnesota Wild on Friday). It feels real good to kind of get out of that one with a win. It'll push us in the right direction moving forward on this trip and through the season."

Elias Lindholm and Blake Coleman scored, Johnny Gaudreau had two assists, and Markstrom made 24 saves for the Flames (0-1-1).
"We've just got to get in front of the goalie and bare down on our chances," Gaudreau said. "We could've had three, four, five goals tonight if we find the net there. We've got to put the puck in the net."
Rakell tied it 2-2 at 12:55 of the third period, shooting blocker side on Markstrom from the high slot after receiving a cross-ice pass from Adam Henrique.
"We were lucky that it was a one-goal game for such a long time, and honestly when we got that tying goal, it gave the whole group some energy," Rakell said. "I think we had some good chances in the last period there [that] also gave us some confidence going into overtime. I thought we did a good job having the puck possession for most of the overtime, and then obviously 'Terrs' and 'Drys' made a great play on that winning goal."
Coleman, who was making his Calgary debut after he was suspended for the opener, made it 1-0 at 7:43 of the first period. He shot under Gibson's arm from the hashmarks on a breakaway after taking a pass from Gaudreau.
"It's obviously a good start," Coleman said. "I was excited. I had my daughter in the stands. That's kind of where my head went, honestly. She doesn't come to all the games. She's kind of been my good-luck charm. It's a fun thing we have. But from the hockey side of it it's another game, another goal that you're just trying to help your team win. I would've liked to bury another couple chances tonight, but we just couldn't get them to fall."

Fowler tied it 1-1 at 15:56 of the first with a shot from the top of the right circle on the power play.
Lindholm gave the Flames a 2-1 lead at 3:52 of the second period when he took a cross-ice pass from Gaudreau and shot five-hole of Gibson.
"He's got a great shot," Gaudreau said. "He always finds that soft spot in the zone where he's 3 feet, 4 feet away from the defender. He's got a great wrist shot. He finds the net a lot. He's a big player for us. He got a big goal for us."
Ducks forward Mason McTavish, who was selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, sustained a lower-body injury in the second period and did not return. There was no update postgame.
NOTES: Gibson got the start after missing Anaheim's loss to Minnesota because of a lower-body injury. … Along with his goal, Coleman had three shots, three hits and was plus-1 in 15:22 of ice time in his Flames debut.
