Crosby-Ovechkin Game 2 Duo

WASHINGTON -- The Pittsburgh Penguins got even in the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Washington Capitals with a 2-1 win in Game 2 at Verizon Center on Saturday. The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.
Here is a look inside the in-game and in-series matchup between Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin and Penguins center Sidney Crosby. Each player was quiet again in Game 2:

Goals: Crosby 0; Ovechkin 0
Assists: Crosby 0; Ovechkin 0
Points: Crosby 0; Ovechkin 0
Ice time: Crosby 22:18; Ovechkin 19:02

Key intangible stats: Ovechkin didn't have a shot on goal until 14:47 of the second period; it was his only shot in the first two periods. He finished the game with three shots on goal; five others were blocked and one missed the target. He was averaging 4.71 shots per game in the playoffs coming into Game 2. Crosby won just one of 10 faceoffs in the first period but rebounded to win 12 of 23 in the final 40 minutes.
Best moment: Ovechkin doesn't usually pass up shots, but he did so during Washington's power play early in the third period. It was a smart decision that helped lead to Marcus Johansson's game-tying goal at 4:08. Had Ovechkin shot instead of passed, the Penguins likely would have blocked it and cleared the zone. Matt Cullen was sliding into the shooting lane to get in Ovechkin's way, so Ovechkin moved the puck across to defenseman John Carlson; he got it down in the corner to Evgeny Kuznetsov, who moved it back up to Carlson. Now the shot was there. Carlson put it on net, the puck fell in the blue paint and Johansson put it in at 4:08 for the game-tying goal. It's rare, but sometimes it's the shot that Ovechkin doesn't take that makes a difference.
Series stat line (goals-assists-points): Crosby 0-0-0; Ovechkin 0-1-1
