4-26-22 Community Hero

TAMPA BAY -The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Dr. Sheron Brown as the Lightning Community Hero this evening during the first period of tonight's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Dr. Brown who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative.

Dr. Brown currently serves as the executive director of Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative. She is passionate about the power of collaboration and how it can help a community, and she uses that drive to continue to close the gap of inequity in the Tampa Bay region. Under Dr. Brown's leadership, Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative has initiated over 90 community initiatives and sought help for 13 projects to address health equity in our community.
The grant tonight will be used to enhance Tampa Bay Health Collaborative's Collaborate app. The Collaborate app instantly plugs users into the greater Tampa Bay health equity ecosystem, thus making the process of connecting with a provider more streamlined. The Collaborate app is the only platform in Tampa Bay that is focused on the social detriments of health and is critical in creating greater access for organizations to collaborate.
Dr. Brown became the 492nd Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $25.7 million to more than 600 unique nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2021, the Viniks announced the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
