Crunch explode for 7-2 victory against Providence
Win puts Crunch on brink of Calder Cup Final up 3-1 in Eastern Conference Final

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch exploded for a four-goal second period on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Providence Bruins in Game 4 Friday at the War Memorial Arena.
For the second consecutive game, Cory Conacher recorded four points with a goal and three assists, along with a similar four-point night by Yanni Gourde. Michael Bournival netted two in his multi-point effort, while Matt Taormina and Ben Thomas contributed a goal and a helper each. Tye McGinn made it six multi-point performance by the Crunch with two helpers. Gabriel Dumont rounded out the goal count with one tally.
Mike McKenna backstopped the Crunch turning aside 33-of-35 shots on goal. Zane McIntyre stopped 24 before being chased in the second period. Malcolm Subban went on to stop 9-of-10 in the third. Syracuse scored multiple power-play goals for the first time this postseason (2-for-5) and went 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Thomas opened scoring just 3:57 into the contest. Gourde faked a shot and dropped a pass back from the right circle for Thomas to net top shelf. Conacher recorded the secondary assist on the opening marker.
The Bruins evened things up three minutes later when Jordan Szwarz scored with the help of Wayne Simpson and Colby Cave.
With 11 ticks remaining in the first, Syracuse went back on top during 5-on-3 play. McGinn shoveled the puck out of the corner to Gourde at the blue line. He sent a feed across the zone for Taormina to pot from the right circle.
Bournival doubled the lead 33 seconds into the second stanza. Conacher's shot richocheted off McIntyre's pad, but Bournival was parked in front of the cage to power the rebound across the goal line. Thomas tallied the secondary helper.
The Bruins pulled back within one just over a minute later on the power play. Simpson fired from the slot and was stopped. McKenna made the save Ryan Fitzgerald's rebound chance, but Danton Heinen was able to sneak the puck in from a sharp angle at the goal line on the third try.
Syracuse went on a three-goal run to close out the second period and go up, 6-2. At 4:31 McGinn wrapped around the back of the cage and sent a centering feed for Gourde to net. Conacher recorded a point on the play. Bournival scored his second of the game from an almost impossible angle skating towards the net along the goal line at the 16 minute mark. Erik Condra and Jake Dotchin assisted on the marker. With 47 seconds remaining, Dumont tipped Taormina's right point shot. Joel Vermin earned the helper.
Conacher potted the team's seventh goal of the night on the man-advantage 4:31 into the third period to secure a decisive victory over the Bruins. Gourde sauced the feed through a defenseman's legs for Conacher to one-time from the right hash marks. The secondary assist went to Byron Froese.
The Crunch host the Bruins for Game 5 Saturday at 7 p.m.
