Four minutes later Brayden Point doubled the Lightning's lead, ripping a shot past Schneider after a feed from Nikita Kucherov.
The Lightning kept the pressure up, with Tyler Johnson scoring two minutes after Point to build a three-goal lead. Johnson scored after a beautiful feed from Point left him all alone coming in on Schneider.
After New Jersey got on the board thanks to Stefan Noesen's second goal of the year, Tampa Bay quickly answered back. A loose puck fell to Cedric Paquette in the slot who jammed a shot past Schneider to put the Bolts back up by three. Dan Girardi picked up the secondary assist on the goal, giving him his 200th assist of his career.
Tampa Bay put the game away with a lucky tally midway through the second period. While battling for a puck with Point, Sami Vatanen took a swipe at the puck that went through Schneider's five-hole and gave the Bolts a 5-1 lead. Point was the last Lightning player to touch the puck, giving him credit for the goal.
The Bolts were given a scare late in the second as Steven Stamkos exited the game after falling to the ice. After sitting out the rest of the period, Stamkos was back on the ice to begin the third.
Jesper Bratt scored five minutes into the third period to pull the Devils within three but that would be as close as they'd get.
