This biggest move the Kings made this offseason took place on June 30th, when LA acquired forward Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the Kings 2022 first-round draft pick (19th overall) and prospect Brock Faber. Immediately upon acquiring Fiala, the Kings and the 26-year old agreed to a seven-year, $55,125,000 contract extension. Fiala recorded career highs across the board last season, as he notched 85 points (33-52=85) in 82 games. Looking ahead, Fiala is expected to bolster the Kings offensively, slotting into a prominent role both at even strength and on the power play.
Outside of acquiring Fiala from the Wild, the Kings did not make any more trades.
With only one trade made in the offseason, the Kings were still busy as they had many decisions to make when it came to 12 free agents, combining those who were both restricted and unrestricted. Among the 12 free agents, three players were unrestricted (Andreas Athanasiou, Alexander Edler, Olli Maatta) and nine were restricted (Lias Andersson, Mikey Anderson, Sean Durzi, Kevin Fiala, Carl Grundstrom, Adrian Kempe, Brendan Lemieux, Jacob Moverare, Gabriel Vilardi). Ultimately, just two of the unrestricted free agents did not return to the Kings as Athanasiou signed with the Chicago Blackhawks and Maatta signed with the Detroit Red Wings.
