WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets are coming home for a quick stop as they host the Buffalo Sabres at Canada Life Centre (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).

The Jets went 1-3-1 on their five-game road trip that wrapped up with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens. One of the positives coming out of the loss is that there was a big improvement from the previous game, which was a 5-1 loss in Buffalo.

“Yeah, the compete was there. Obviously, it sucks we got beat and didn’t get the win,” said Mark Scheifele.

“But that was a better blueprint for how our team has got to play. If we play like that, we’ll get some wins.”

Make sure to watch the Jets pregame show "The Check In" at 12:30 CT with Sara Orlesky and Jamie Thomas.

It has been a struggle for Winnipeg especially since they lost their Hart and Vezina Trophy winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Eric Comrie stopped 29 of 31 Canadiens shots, including numerous high-danger chances. Comrie’s .935 save percentage against the Canadiens was his third game of the season above the .930 mark, and his first such game since becoming the full-time starter on Nov. 21.

“I think for myself, I've just been trying to work as hard as I can every single day and get the best for this team, and they can,” said Comrie on Saturday night.

“They're getting the best for me, it's just, it's not going our way right now, but we're gonna find it. I think there's enough positivity, there's enough good game in our game right now that we can start getting some points here.”

In the last meeting between these two teams, Buffalo jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and cruised from there. There is no question that the Jets will have to be better from the drop of the puck than they were on Monday night in Buffalo.

I mean we obviously didn't win, which is the main thing. But I think we're everyone's just kind of happy to be home. We've been gone for a lot of this past month, and I think we just need to be, be confident in ourselves, and we have a good team in here,” said Dylan Samberg.

“We should we showed it in previous games this year. We know we just haven't really found that consistency, and hopefully we can start it tonight.”

The Sabre game was sandwiched between two real solid efforts and that could be the consistency that Samberg was referring to with the performances in Nashville and Montreal.

Yeah, I mean, obviously, in Nashville, we competed, and it showed. We got a good, gritty win there, and that was good for our confidence,” said Samberg.

“And, obviously trying to build off Montreal, (it) didn't go our way at the at the end there. But, I mean, we just got to slowly, keep working our way, keep building, take it step by step.”

Despite the fact the Jets haven’t been able to get to the consistency that the team has been known for in years past, Adam Lowry says they remain confident they can turn this around.

“We have shown, at times, that when we play the right way, play with a consistent effort, we are a tough team to play against,” said Adam Lowry.

“With the core group we have in here over the last few years we have shown we can be a real strong defensive team, and we have shown we can have an elite powerplay and be one of the better teams in the league.”

Puck drop is scheduled for 6 CT.
