The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled today the club's new home and road uniforms featuring a collection of design elements and new features which officially usher in the team's New Era of Orange. The design changes are the first alterations to the team's primary home and away uniforms since 2010.

"This New Era of Orange is all about honoring our franchise's storied past while writing an exciting, new chapter of Flyers history," said Daniel J. "These new uniforms represent that sentiment perfectly with details to honor previous eras paired with a fresh, modern design. And there's no better company than Independence Blue Cross to be our first jersey patch partner! It is an organization that has meant so much to me personally and the entire Philadelphia region."

The club collaborated with the NHL's League-wide uniform partner, adidas, to bring the design to life. Many key stakeholders across the organization including Flyers season ticket members, Flyers alumni and broadcasters were consulted throughout the process. To honor its tradition while carving out a new era for the franchise, the Flyers are combining notable components of its past jerseys to form a modern adaptation of its storied history.

The team identified several iconic elements from different decades to incorporate into the design. The big, bold striping across the shoulders and down the arms, a defining characteristic of Flyers uniforms, has been widened to fully encapsulate each player's numbers for a streamlined design. Numbers located on the sleeves will go back to a single-color design, a nod to the original 1967-1970 uniforms, the first time since those years the uniform will sport single-color numbers.

The black horizontal stripe at the bottom of the jersey has been moved down to the bottom edge of sweater which will sit flush with the black pants for a more fluid aesthetic and representative of the uniforms introduced in 1982. The new jerseys will carry over the contrasting name-plate design, which was first introduced in 2008. The Flyers stand as the only team in the NHL to sport this feature on their primary uniforms.

The jerseys most notably features the clamored-for "burnt orange" that defined the great teams of the 80s and 90s. The iconic shade of orange serves as the base of the home jerseys and is prominently displayed on the arm and shoulder panels and large player numbers for the team's away jerseys. Burnt orange is also featured on both sets of socks to round out the look.

Through the multiple stylistic changes, the organization's iconic "flying P" logo remains the foundation and focal point of the uniform set. Dating back to the team's inception in 1967, the logo represents speed and the motion of flying across the ice.

"These burnt orange sweaters are one of the most iconic symbols of Flyers hockey," said Keith Jones, Flyers President of Hockey Operations and Alternate Governor. "There's no doubt that this look is known throughout the NHL and uniquely beloved by our fans because it brings to life one of the most important parts of our rebuild - it honors our past while we continue to forge a new path forward."

As part of the new uniform unveil, the team also announced its first-ever official home jersey patch partner, Philadelphia-based Independence Blue Cross. Through the multi-year deal, Independence Blue Cross, a leading health insurer in Southeastern Pennsylvania, becomes the Official Health Insurance Partner of the Philadelphia Flyers.

"Independence Blue Cross is excited about this opportunity to highlight our ongoing support for the Philadelphia Flyers in such a visible way," said Gregory E. Deavens, Independence Blue Cross president and CEO. "We are proud of our Philadelphia roots and our service to Southeastern Pennsylvania over the past 85 years. As the hometown health insurer, we are delighted to support the traditions that mean so much to our community, including deepening our relationship with our region's legendary hometown hockey team."

The partnership will place an Independence Blue Cross logo on the right chest of all Flyers home sweaters as well as the third alternate jersey and will be showcased through team platforms and television broadcasts. Independence will also become a presenting sponsor for a social media series on Flyers channels focused on nutrition and healthy eating. Through the deal, the organization will offer special single game discounts to Independence Blue Cross members that will be announced at a later date.
