The Devils had a day off on Sunday, but were back on the ice for practice RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House at Prudential Center for a Monday practice. The club will host Calgary Tuesday night in the finale of a five-game season-opening homestand.
All expected players were on the ice for practice. Absent were forwards Jack Hughes (dislocated left shoulder) and Miles Wood (undisclosed) and goaltenders Mackenzie Blackwood (heel) and Jonathan Bernier (lower-body).
Black, who has received his first COVID-19 vaccination dose, and Bernier both skate on Monday and are day-to-day to rejoin practice. Wood still hasn't been on the ice.
"He just continues down this path of trying to recover from his injury and recover from what's bothering him," head coach Lindy Ruff said. "It's painstaking. I know he's frustrating. We're waiting to see where this all unfolds."
