Devils Practice Ahead of Roster Deadline | NOTEBOOK

The Devils are practicing on Monday afternoon at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House inside Prudential Center. This is the final practice before the NHL's 5 p.m. ET roster deadline where teams must trim their roster to the 23-man set.

Pesce Expected to Play in Opener

While he didn't join the team for practice, defenseman Brett Pesce did skate on his own Monday. The team will have a day of work off the ice Tuesday and Pesce is expected to practice Wednesday and play Thursday in the season opener.

Final Roster

The Devils will set their 23-man roster by 5 p.m. ET. One forward who is attending camp on a PTO is center Luke Glendening. Though he hasn't signed a contract, he did work on the fourth line at practice Monday.

"We think he's had a good camp," Keefe said. "They're still working on the situation and contract. This time of year there's a lot of details that go into different things. Some of it is less about decision making than it is a math equation. We'll see how it all shakes out in the next day or two."

Practice Info

Defenseman Brett Pesce is not on the ice for practice as it begins. Forward Stefan Noesen is with the team, though head coach Sheldon Keefe noted that he is still a long way off from playing in a game.

Jesper Bratt on the team’s depth: “Every day you come in here and look at the board with the lineup and you see how deep it is and how stacked it is from every position. You’re creating a real friendly good competition. It’s super awesome to see that and so many guys that are going to contribute.”

Captain Nico Hischier on starting the regular season: “We’re all excited to get going. It’s good to have the group together, a couple more practices and head to Raleigh, and get going.”
