Sami Vatanen signed with the Devils on January 7. But with his visa situation and then waiting on a mandatory quarantine period and then with the team's season being put on pause due to COVID, the defender spent a month and some change waiting patiently to join his teammates.
It was a long wait.

"Of course, it feels good to just to get doing something," said Vatanen. "It's been a couple of weeks since I got here but at least I got time to get used to the time difference and everything like that. But it's nice to see the boys and get it going again."
The defender says he believes he'll be ready to rock when his name is called for a game after meeting with the coaching staff virtually for some time now.
"Actually, right after I signed, I had a couple of zoom calls with here with the coaches we went through all the things, like what do we do differently than last year. And so it's been helping me and I mostly know everything right now. It's just time to get back into the action and see how it goes."
