CHRIS ROMAINE

Read up on the Q&A with one of the newest members of the Colorado Avalanche organization, Chris Romaine. The 18-year-old defenseman was drafted by the Avalanche in the sixth round (193rd overall) at the 2022 NHL Draft earlier this month.

What was your immediate reaction seeing your name selected by the Avs during the 2022 NHL Draft?

It was pretty crazy to be honest, it felt surreal. But at the same time, I was really happy and to be with my family right there with me when my name was called. It was the best feeling in the world. It was awesome, it's obviously a great organization here so coming to the Avs makes it that much more special.

Do you have any siblings?

I have an older brother and an older sister. My older sister just graduated from [Boston College] and my brother was a freshman at [Boston University] this year. My brother was a hockey player growing up and my sister danced so we are all kind of competitive.

How was Avalanche Development Camp so far?

It's been good. It's definitely something where I come here and learn a ton. I have been here for a few days, and I have already learned a lot about myself and where my game is at. It's awesome to be out there with some guys who have a bit more experience and me learning from them, seeing how they do things. So, overall just being out here has been a great experience for me.

What are your plans and goals for next season?

My plan for next season is to play in Omaha. Playing in the USHL which will be a bit of an adjustment coming from high school hockey, but that is something I am looking forward to. I am looking forward to taking on the challenge and overall, just becoming a better hockey player, a better person, everything. At least one year there will be good for me, then hopefully I will go to [play Division 1 at] Providence after that.

What is your style as a defenseman?

I like to think of myself as a two-way part moving defenseman. I like to play defense, get the puck, move it up and jump up into the play. Contribute to the offense without sacrificing anything on the defense. I like to do it all out there, just do everything I can to help the team.

What NHL player did you look up to as a kid?

As a kid I was watching all those guys. Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson, those puck moving defenseman. But obviously in these past few years I have been a big Cale Makar fan. It kind of works out good that I'm here. He is pretty special over these past few years I have really enjoyed getting to watch him.

What is yourfavorite Food?

My favorite food has got to be steak.

What is your favorite Movie?

Stepbrothers.

Do you have any pets?

I have two dogs, they are German Pinchers. One's name is Looker and one's name is Junie.
