FINAL

The Colorado Avalanche suffered a 6-3 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night at Mullet Arena. Colorado is now 19-12-2 on the season. The Avalanche had their four-game win streak snapped.

For the Avalanche, Evan Rodrigues scored on the power play, while Cale Makar (1G, 1A) and Mikko Rantanen also scored. J.T. Compher dished out two assists. In net, Alexandar Georgiev made 27 saves on 32 shots. Andrew Cogliano returned to the lineup after missing two games ahead of the Holiday Break due to injury.
For the Coyotes, Shayne Gostisbehere, Lawson Crouse (1G, 2A), J.J. Moser and Michael Carcone scored at even strength. Nick Schmaltz (1G, 1A) also added a power-play strike and Clayton Keller (1G, 1A) put away an empty-net goal. Jakob Chychrun handed out three assists. Between the pipes, Connor Ingram made 26 saves on 29 shots.


GAME SUMMARY:

First period:
3:55 - ARI 1, COL 0 -Gostisbehere scored the game's icebreaker early into play as he blasted a one-timer - off a feed from Chychrun - from distance off the post and past Georgiev.
4:32 - COL 1, ARI 1, PPG - Colorado wasted no time in evening the score up 1-1 as they received a power play at 4:22. Just 10 seconds into the man advantage, Rodrigues wired his shot - off a Cale Makar feed - past Ingram's glove.

11:33 - ARI 1, COL 1 - After grabbing the puck off the boards, Crouse weaved his way into the slot and beat Georgiev with a high backhanded shot to restore the lead to the Coyotes.
Second period:
5:59 - ARI 3, COL 1, PPG -Arizona took its first two-goal lead after receiving its first power play at 4:36. After Georgiev denied a shot from Nick Ritchie in the slot, Schmaltz put the rebound in the net from the doorstep.
11:23 - ARI 3, COL 2 -Makar skated into the right faceoff circle and beat Ingram as he ripped a cross-ice feed from Compher.

16:38 - ARI 4, COL 2 - Just seconds after the Avalanche killed off a power play, Moser lobbed a wrist shot from distance through traffic and past Georgiev to extend the Coyotes' lead 4-2.
Third period:
3:43 - ARI 5, COL 2 -On a three-on-one rush, the Coyotes extended their lead 5-2 as Carcone buried a tic-tac-toe pass on the backdoor set up initially from Chychrun to Crouse and past Georgiev.
5:24 - ARI 5, COL 3 -At the net front, Rantanen redirected a point shot from Erik Johnson past Ingram to trim Colorado's deficit down 5-3.

19:04 - ARI 6, COL 3 - Keller furthered Arizona's lead 6-3 as he put away an empty-net goal.


NOTEWORTHY:
  • Rodrigues recorded his eighth goal of the season and his fifth power-play goal.
  • Makar tallied his eighth goal of the season.
  • Rantanen buried his team-leading 24th goal of the season and he now has five goals in his last six games. The Finnish winger is now tied for the third-most goals in the entirety of the NHL.
  • Georgiev made his 24th start of the season, while his record fell to 15-7-2.
  • Valeri Nichushkin (lower body) and Pavel Francouz (lower body) did not make the trip. There is not a timeline on either player's injury.
  • Colorado finished the game 1-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
  • Nichushkin (lower body), Francouz (lower body) and Martin Kaut (week-to-week) were scratches for the Avalanche.
