Coming off its first regulation loss since March 8 to end its 15-game point streak, the Colorado Avalanche heads to Southern California to begin its final two-game set against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
The Avs (26-9-4) closed out their regular-season series versus the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday, falling 8-3. Nathan MacKinnon extended his goal streak to four games and point streak to seven contests (five goals, seven assists) with a goal and an assist--his fifth multi-point outing in his last six matchups. Mikko Rantanen (one goal, one assist) and Cale Makar (two assists) each registered multi-point efforts, while Makar collected a point for the fourth straight game.

Anaheim (12-21-7) defeated the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday by a score of 5-1, snapping its three-game losing streak as five different players found the back of the net. Nicolas Deslauriers and David Backes both finished with a goal and an assist, while Adam Henrique and Max Comtois both tallied their 11th of the season--tied for the team lead. Goaltender John Gibson stopped 34-of-35 for his eight win this campaign.
Friday's contest is the seventh meeting between the clubs this year and the third at Honda Center. It is also the third contests of a four-game road trip for the Avalanche.

Ducks defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was Colorado's first-round draft choice in 2007 (No. 14 overall) and began his career with the Avalanche in 2010-11… Anaheim forward Danton Heinen played at the University of Denver from 2014-16… Ducks forward Troy Terry was born in Denver and also skated at the University of Denver from 2015-18.

HISTORY

The Avs have faced off against the Ducks six times through its first 39 contests, owning a 4-1-1 mark after taking the last matchup on March 29 by a score of 5-2. Although the club has won four of six, the contests have been tight with three games going beyond 60 minutes. Mikko Rantanen has registered six goals and one assist in six meetings versus the squad, tallying a goal in three consecutive matchups. Rantanen has found the back of the net more times against Anaheim than any other opponent this year. Philipp Grubauer has also been solid in between the pipes when facing the Ducks, sporting a 4-1-0 record, .927 save percentage and 1.70 goals-against average.
All time, Colorado boasts a 46-35-19 mark versus Anaheim with a 3-2-0 record over its last five at Honda Center. This season, the Avs are 1-1-0 when visiting the Ducks and have yet to give up a power-play goal, going eight-for-eight on the kill.

ROSTER REPORT

The club traveled to Anaheim on Thursday and did not practice, so its exact lineup likely will be unknown until after morning skate. Colorado will make a change to its defensemen as Jacob MacDonald was suspended for two games after an illegal check to the head on Wednesday. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer is likely to get his fourth straight start in net.

INJURY UPDATE

Bowen Byram (upper body) is day-to-day, while Logan O'Connor (lower body) and Matt Calvert (upper body) are both out week-to-week with ailments. Pavel Francouz (lower body) and Erik Johnson (upper body) are both out long term with injuries.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS

Anaheim holds the eighth spot in the West Division with 31 points (12-21-7), including a 5-12-4 mark at home. The club is currently on a three-game losing streak at home (0-2-1) and has dropped six out of its last seven at Honda Center.
