United States Drew Helleson Prospect 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship World Juniors Edmonton

The United States posted its second straight shutout and improved to 2-1-0 at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship with a 7-0 win against the Czech Republic on Tuesday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

After a scoreless first period, Bobby Brink tallied twice and Trevor Zegras also found the back of the net during 4-on-4 play in the middle frame to give the U.S. a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Zegras scored again in the third before the United States tallied three power-play goals to seal the victory. American goaltender Spencer Knight stopped all 22 shots he faced in the contest.
Colorado Avalanche prospect Drew Helleson had one shot on net in 8:44 of ice time. The defenseman has skated in all three of Team USA's games and has one goal, one assist and a plus-3 rating at the under-20 tournament.
Helleson and Team USA will be off on Wednesday before finishing preliminary-round play on Thursday against Sweden.

Canada (10) vs. Switzerland (0)

Team Canada also earned a shutout victory on Tuesday, skating to a decisive 10-0 win against Switzerland to remain undefeated and improve to 3-0-0 at the 2021 World Juniors.
Philip Tomasino tallied the only marker of the first period, 1:30 into the frame, but Canada's offense erupted in the final two stanzas. The team had four different goal scorers in the second period and added five more goals in the third. Quinton Byfield led the team with six points (two goals, four assists) and eight other skaters had two or more points.
Forward Alex Newhook registered two assists in the victory and defensemen Bowen Byram and Justin Barron were a plus-2 and plus-1, respectively, in the outing.
All of the Avalanche prospects have played in all three of Canada's games at the tournament. Newhook has five points (two goals, three assists), Barron has two assists and Byram also has two assists and a tournament-leading plus-12 rating.
Canada has the day off on Wednesday before concluding the preliminary round against Finland on Thursday.
