Meier Pots 1st Career Goal on 1st Career Shot

On Friday, December 16, rookie forward Timo Meier scored his first National Hockey League goal against the Montreal Canadiens. The twenty-year-old was playing in his first career NHL game, and the goal came on his first NHL shot.

The last Sharks player to score on his first career goal on his first shot in his debut was defenseman Matt Carle who did so on March 25, 2006 against the Minnesota Wild.

Timo Meier was the 9th overall pick in 2015 from the Halifax Mooseheads. Last season, between the Halifax Mooseheads and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Meier scored 34 goals and 53 assists for 87 points in 52 games. He scored an additional 23 points in 18 games in the playoffs, when he won a QMJHL championship. A native of Switzerland, Meier has represented his country in multiple international tournaments, including captaining the Swiss team at last year's World Junior Championships.

Prior to joining the Sharks, Meier had 9 goals and 6 assists in 17 games with the San Jose Barracuda in his first season as a professional after missing most of training camp and the first part of the season with mononucleosis.
