Prospect Update: Gettinger With Assist for the Hounds

Plus Ronning Signs ATO and other playoff series begin

Tim Gettinger posted an assist in Sault Ste. Marie's 5-2 win over Flint in Game 1 of the Ontario Hockey League's first round of the playoffs.

Gettinger's assist came on the game-winning goal in the second period for the Greyhounds, who finished second in the Western Conference. Gettinger's 31 goals, 23 assistsw and 54 points in 62 regular season games were all career-highs.

Goaltender Igor Shesterkin picked up the overtime win for SKA over Lokomotiv in Game 1 of the Kontinental Hockey League's Conference Final. Shesterkin entered in relief at the start of the overtime and did not face a shot. It was his first appearance in the playoffs after going 27-4-6 in the regular season.

Forward Ty Ronning signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Thursday. The 2016 seventh round pick had 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 68 games with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. The Giants did not qualify for the WHL playoffs.

Sergey Zborovskiy and the Regina Pats open their first round in the WHL postseason tonight against Calgary. Regina finished as the top team in the WHL.

Ryan Gropp and the Seattle Thunderbirds face off against Tri-City, while Brad Morrison and Prince George take on Portland in the first round.

Defenseman Sean Day and the Windsor Spitfires begin their series with London in the OHL, while Gabriel Fontaine and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies battle the Halifax Mooseheads tonight in Game 1 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League opening-round series.
