NEW YORK, NY – The world's most famous arena couldn't stop us on the road.
Matt Tomkins made 28 saves for his first win in Blue & Orange in his club debut, while Colton Dach posted his first career two-goal game, and Evan Bouchard had a goal & two assists as the Edmonton Oilers secured their seventh straight road victory on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
"There's nothing better than winning on the road, honestly," Connor McDavid said. "Our team loves it. Coming into a tough building on a back-to-back against a rested team, these are the ones that you thrive in, and you want to dig in and find a way to get one. Tonight was a big one."
The Oilers captain continued his historic start to the season with a goal & an assist, scoring a fantastic opener only 50 seconds into the first period before extending his NHL record season-opening assist streak to 15 games (30A) with the helper on Evan Bouchard's power-play goal that made it 3-0 in the middle frame.
McDavid leads the NHL with nine goals & 30 assists in 15 games, trailed by his teammates Draisaitl (28), who had two assists, and Bouchard (26), rounding out the League's current top three in scoring.
"It's actually been really fun to have things so new here in Edmonton," McDavid added. "It's been really fun to just dive in and just sink your teeth into a new system, a new kind of way of playing, and it's kind of left my own [success] secondary just trying to take care of the things that I need to do within the system. Those things have been happening, and it's just been a byproduct of everybody playing.
"When the team is winning games, individual stuff happens like that, and definitely, I've been the beneficiary of some great team play."
