"Our effort yesterday was really good, it was our best game in a while, and we were expecting the same tonight, and we didn't get that tonight," Sedin said. "But if the effort is there, we'll get a result. And I think we saw yesterday that we can be a good team, but it has to be better than tonight."
Alzner gave Montreal a 1-0 lead with his first goal in more than a year, at 9:39 of the first period. His shot from the left side deflected off Vancouver defenseman Troy Stecher's stick for his first goal in 88 games -- 42 with Montreal this season -- since Jan. 1, 2017, for the Washington Capitals in a 2-1 win against the Ottawa Senators.
Galchenyuk made it 2-1 with his fifth power-play goal, at 2:12 of the second period.
Sedin deflected Alex Edler's shot from the point past Price for his ninth goal at 13:04 to draw Vancouver within 2-1.
Del Zotto tied it at 2-2 with his second goal at 2:47 of the third period when he took a pass in the slot from Brock Boeser and deked to put a backhand between Price's legs.
"We weren't happy with our play the first two periods but going into the third, we said, 'we're still in this hockey game, we've got a chance for the two points,' " Del Zotto said. "We come back and tie it up, we've got to find a way to at least come out with one point there. A disappointing game for us tonight, especially after how we played yesterday."
