Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone lift Senators to win

MONTREAL -- Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone each had a goal and two assists to help the Ottawa Senators to a 4-3 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Tuesday.
It was the first regulation loss of the season for Montreal goalie Carey Price (11-1-1), who made 19 saves.
Derick Brassard and Erik Karlsson also scored for the Senators (11-7-1), and Craig Anderson made 36 saves.
"When we really needed it, we put it in the net, and that's been missing a bit," said Karlsson, who got the 400th point of his NHL career when he assisted on Hoffman's power-play goal. "We've been struggling a bit. It was nice to see that the top dogs on our team can score some goals as well when we needed to, and at the same time playing solid defensively. That's what we need."

It was the first time the Senators scored three or more goals in a game since Oct. 25 in a 3-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks, and the third goal in that game was into an empty net. It's the first time since Oct. 18 they scored at least three goals in a game on a goalie (7-4 win against the Arizona Coyotes).

Shea Weber, Alexander Radulov and Alex Galchenyuk scored for the Canadiens (14-4-2), who are 11-1-1 at home.
Weber scored a power-play goal 26 seconds into the second period to give Montreal a 1-0 lead. After Hoffman scored at 5:22 of the second to tie it 1-1, Radulov put the Canadiens up 2-1 with his fourth goal at 7:39.
Brassard scored at 15:55 of the second to tie it 2-2. It was his second goal in three games after a 15-game drought.
After Galchenyuk scored the Canadiens' second power-play goal of the game at 2:08 of the third period for a 3-2 lead, Stone and Karlsson scored 2:24 apart to give the Senators their first lead of the game.
Stone tipped in a pass from Brassard from the edge of the crease at 3:13 to tie it 3-3, and Karlsson scored through a screen at 5:37 to make it 4-3.
Hoffman, back in the lineup after missing two games with a groin injury, scored for the first time in his past five games, and Karlsson's game-winner was his first goal in 12 games.

Goal of the game

Brassard tied the game 2-2 when he crashed the net and backhanded the puck between his legs towards Price. The puck bounced off the inside of Price's right pad, and after a video review, it was ruled the puck crossed the goal line.

Save of the game

Anderson stopped Max Pacioretty's low shot on a breakaway with 5:53 left in the third period and snatched the loose puck with his glove after it popped up in the air.

Highlight of the game

Radulov scored with some great stick-handling, putting the puck to the inside on Hoffman in the right faceoff circle, going around him on the outside, and picking the puck up on the other side. He made a strong cut to the net and put in his own rebound.

Unsung moment of the game

Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki blocked a shot by Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu with his right arm at 13:04 of the first period. Borowiecki went to the Senators locker room but returned to finish the game.

Beaulieu left the game at 15:19 of the second period after getting hit in the throat area with the puck. "Everything seems fine. That's the initial report, I just spoke to the doctors," Therrien said. … Weber's goal, his NHL-leading seventh on the power play, ended Ottawa's streak of 35 successful penalty kills in a row since Oct. 22 (4-2 loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning). … It was the 14th time in 19 games the Senators have given up the first goal. … The Canadiens were 2-for-8 on the power play.
