TAMPA -- Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov sustained an upper-body injury in the first period of a
4-3 shootout win against the Toronto Maple Leafs
at Amalie Arena on Monday and did not return.
Kucherov, who leads the NHL with 82 points (33 goals, 49 assists), was on the ice for 5:19 over six shifts before leaving the bench. He entered Monday with six goals and 10 assists during a nine-game point streak.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper did not have an update on the extent of Kucherov's injury, but the Tampa Bay Times reported he is OK and could play against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
Lightning forward Tyler Johnson was helped off the ice in the third period with an apparent leg injury but returned for overtime.
"It was great to see him back," Cooper said. "Hopefully the emotions, the energy and the adrenaline kept him in the game. We will have to evaluate him (Tuesday)."
The Lightning played with 11 forwards against the Maple Leafs after they acquired defenseman Ryan McDonagh and forward J.T. Miller in a trade with the New York Rangers for forward Vladislav Namestnikov, forward Brett Howden, defenseman Libor Hajek, a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and a conditional second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Miller could be in the lineup as early as Wednesday. McDonagh, who has missed the past nine games with an upper-body injury, said he will likely be ready to return next week.
