BOS@TBL: Kucherov snipes top corner to tie game

The Tampa Bay Lightning moved within three victories of the NHL single-season record when they rallied from two goals down in the third period to defeat the Boston Bruins 5-4 at Amalie Arena on Monday.

Steven Stamkos had four points (two goals, two assists), NHL scoring leader Nikita Kucherov tied the game 4-4 with 6:45 remaining in the third and Anthony Cirelli scored the game-winner with 52.2 seconds left for the Lightning (59-14-4), who are three wins shy of the
NHL record
set by the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings (62).
Tampa Bay's 122 points are
sixth in NHL history
. The Lightning have five games remaining and can tie the record of 132 set by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens (60-8 with 12 ties in 80 games) by winning out.
The Lightning have yet to lose more than once to an Eastern Conference opponent this season. They've lost six times within the East -- once each to the Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs. The only teams to defeat the Lightning twice this season are from the Western Conference -- the Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild.
The win was the Lightning's 32nd at home this season, matching their record set in 2014-15. Tampa Bay is 9-6-0 when trailing by multiple goals in a game, tied with the Calgary Flames for the NHL lead in multigoal comeback wins overall, and their three multigoal comebacks in the third period are tied for the NHL lead with the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers.

Tavares scores four on milestone night for Maple Leafs

John Tavares scored four goals to help the Maple Leafs outlast the Florida Panthers 7-5 at Scotiabank Arena. The Maple Leafs have scored 271 goals this season, second to the Lightning (300). It was the 20th game this season (1,117 games played) to feature at least 12 goals (including shootout goals), the most at this stage of a season since 1995-96 (34).
Tavares has scored an NHL career-high 45 goals, second in the NHL to Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin (48). He has 86 points, matching his NHL career high set with the Islanders in 2014-15. Tavares surpassed Eddie Olczyk (42 in 1987-88) for the most goals in his first season with the Maple Leafs. The only player to score more goals than Tavares in his first full season with Toronto is Dave Andreychuk, who scored 53 in 1993-94 after joining the team during 1992-93.
Mitchell Marner had three assists, giving him 90 points (25 goals, 65 assists). The 21-year-old is the youngest player in Maple Leafs history to have 90 points in a season and the first to have that many since Mats Sundin in 1996-97 (94 points; 41 goals, 53 assists). Marner's 65 assists are the most by a Toronto player since Doug Gilmour had 84 in 1993-94 and the
fifth-most
in Maple Leafs history.
Morgan Rielly had two assists, giving him 70 points (20 goals, 50 assists). He is the third defenseman in Maple Leafs history, and the first in 39 years, to have at least 70 points in a season, joining Borje Salming (1976-77, 1977-78, 1978-79 and 1979-80) and Ian Turnbull (1976-77). Rielly also joined Salming (five times), Turnbull (twice) and Tomas Kaberle (2005-06) as the only defensemen in Maple Leafs history to have 50 assists in a season.
