RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thomas Greiss made 38 saves for the New York Islanders in a 2-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Sunday.

Sebastian Aho had an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games, tying Ron Francis for the longest to start a season in Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers history.
Ryan Pulock scored his first goal of the season to give New York a 2-1 lead at 14:35 of the second period, beating goalie Petr Mrazek with a slap shot from the high slot.

"It's been a little frustrating at times, not being able to chip in offensively," Pulock said. "To get that one, to break the seal and for it to stand as the game-winner feels good."
Greiss earned his 100th NHL win and his second against the Hurricanes this season. He made 45 saves in a 2-1 overtime win at Carolina on Oct. 4 in the season opener for each team.

Griess was especially strong moving post to post to stop the Hurricanes on Sunday.
"It's the way they play, they like the wraparounds," said Greiss, who is 7-3-1 against Carolina. "They like to come from the goal line. You can get awkward angles where it's tough to make a clean save or make the rebound go where you want. So it's not the easiest thing."
Anders Lee had a goal and an assist, and Josh Bailey had two assists for the Islanders (5-4-1), who were coming off a 6-1 win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Mrazek made 18 saves for the Hurricanes (6-4-1), who lost for the first time in three games.
"Right from the start, we were a tad off maybe," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "And when we were a tad off and we were good, we couldn't find the net and we had a couple breakdowns. Frustrating is a good word for it."
Lee scored on the power play to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead 3:39 into the game when he redirected a pass from Bailey in the slot.

"Huge, especially because our legs are back-to-back, road game," said Lee, who has two goals and six assists in a four-game point streak. "All those little things (are) why that first goal is really huge. It gives us a little cushion, and obviously we needed it."
Teuvo Teravainen tied the game 1-1 at 1:16 of the second period. Aho drove the net and took a backhand shot, and Teravainen scored on the rebound after Greiss made the initial right-pad save.
Aho has four goals and 12 assists in his point streak. Francis had six goals and eight assists in the first 11 games of the 1984-85 season with the Whalers.
Aho has had at least one assist in all 11 games, tying the Carolina record for consecutive games with an assist set by Eric Staal in 2011-12.
The Hurricanes were 0-for-3 on the power play. The Islanders went 1-for-4.

They said it

"This group has a real good backbone. This team is not built like some of the other teams, or like my previous team (the Washington Capitals); they have some high-octane guys. We have some good players, but we don't have as many of those game-breakers. So we have to play a really good team game." -- Islanders coach Barry Trotz
"Losing the special-teams battle and trying to win games is tough. [Thomas] Greiss is a good goalie, but he's not a world-beater. For some reason, the past couple games, we haven't found a way to get one past him, and we have to." -- Hurricanes captain Justin Williams
