Facts and Figures: Schwartz historic hat trick helps Blues advance

against the Winnipeg Jets in Game 6 of the Western Conference First Round on Saturday.

Schwartz had a natural hat trick, making him the second player in NHL history with a natural hat trick in a Stanley Cup Playoff series-clinching game, joining Geoff Courtnall of the Vancouver Canucks against the Jets in Game 7 of the 1992 Smythe Division Semifinals.
Dating to Game 5, when he scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in the third period, Schwartz has scored the Blues' past four goals. He joined Phil Roberto (Games 2-4, 1972 NHL Quarterfinal) and Red Berenson (Games 1-2, 1969 NHL Semifinal) as the third player in Blues history to account for four consecutive team goals in the postseason.

. The previous St. Louis player to do it was Schwartz, in Games 2 and 3 of the 2017 Western Conference First Round against the Minnesota Wild. Schwartz's six game-winning goals are tied for second in Blues history with Larry Keenan; Brett Hull is first with 15.
Schwartz's play helped the Blues become the first team in the expansion era (since 1967-68) to win a playoff series after being last in the NHL standings after New Year's Day. The Blues were 31st in the League at 15-18-4 on Jan. 3, their 34 points one fewer than the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators.

Stars offense comes up big again

The Dallas Stars scored 209 goals, tied with the Arizona Coyotes for the third-fewest in the NHL and the fewest of any team that made the playoffs. But they've scored 16 goals in five games against the Nashville Predators, including
a 5-3 win in Game 5
on Saturday. The Stars can advance past the opening round of the second time in 11 years when they play the Predators in Game 6 at American Airlines Center on Monday (8:30 p.m. ET; CNBC, SN1, TVAS2, FS-SW, FS-TN); their last series victory was against the Wild in the 2016 Western Conference First Round.
Forwards Alexander Radulov and Jamie Benn led the Stars' offense. Radulov scored two goals; it was his first multigoal playoff game since his postseason debut, with the Nashville Predators against the San Jose Sharks in Game 1 of the 2007 Western Conference Quarterfinals. Radulov's four goals in five games this season surpasses his single-postseason NHL high of three in four games in 2007.
Benn had three assists, all in the second period,
tying the NHL record for most in a single period
. He's the second player to accomplish that during the 2019 playoffs, joining Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Game 5 was the second consecutive time the Stars scored five goals, following their 5-1 win in Game 4 on Wednesday. It's the ninth time in Dallas/Minnesota North Stars history the team has scored at least five goals in consecutive playoff games, and the first time since the North Stars did it in Games 3-4 of the 1991 Campbell Conference Final against the Edmonton Oilers.

Backstrom's big game leads Capitals

Nicklas Backstrom had two goals and two assists for the Capitals in their
6-0 win against the Hurricanes
in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round on Saturday. The Capitals lead the best-of-7 series 3-2 and can advance to the second round with a win in Game 6 at PNC Arena on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVAS, FS-CR, NBCSWA).
Backstrom matched his single-game NHL playoff best with four points; he had three goals and an assist against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 2 of the 2010 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. He joined Dino Ciccarelli and Evgeny Kuznetsov as the only Capitals players with two four-point playoff games.

Nic Dowd scored the first postseason penalty shot goal for the Capitals. He was the
fifth Washington player to attempt one
, following Kelly Miller (1990), Michal Pivonka (1995), Joe Juneau (1996) and Dainius Zubrus (2003).
Dowd is the second player in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs to score on a penalty shot, joining Mitchell Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's the fourth NHL postseason with multiple penalty shot goals, joining 1991 (two), 1988 (two) and 2002 (two).
Braden Holtby made 30 saves for his seventh playoff shutout, passing Olie Kolzig for the most in Capitals history.

Maple Leafs, Golden Knights eyeing second round

The Toronto Maple Leafs can reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2004 with a win against the Boston Bruins in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday (3 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, SN, TVAS).
Toronto is 35-14 in potential series-clinching games at home.
The Vegas Golden Knights can move past the first round for the second consecutive season with a win against the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 of the Western Conference First Round at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, SN360, TVAS, ATTSN-RN, NBCSCA).
Vegas, which lost to Washington in the Stanley Cup Final last season, would become the third team in NHL history to advance past the first round of the playoffs in each of its first two seasons, joining the New York Rangers (1926-27 and 1927-28) and the Blues (1967-68 and 1968-69).
When trailing a best-of-7 series 3-2, the Bruins have won to force Game 7 10 times and have goine on to win the series on three of those occasions. In the same scenario, the Sharks have extended a series to a Game 7 twice, winning once.
