Greiss Named NHL Second Star of the Week

The National Hockey League announced today that Thomas Greiss was named the Second Star of the Week, for the week ending on Jan. 22.
The Islanders goaltender finished with a 2-0-1 record with two shutouts in three games this week, while posting a .971 save percentage and a 0.982 goals-against average.

On Monday, Greiss turned aside all 32 shots he faced in New York's 4-0 win in Boston. He followed up his shutout performance with another, making 23 saves to blank the Dallas Stars in the Islanders' 3-0 win on Thursday. The German-born goaltender closed out the week making 44 saves in New York's 3-2 overtime loss to the Flyers on Sunday night.

Greiss is the first Islander since 2014 to post back-to-back shutouts and his streak of 154:10 without allowing a goal was the sixth longest in Islanders' history. It was the first time in Greiss' NHL career he posted back-to-back shutouts and his two shutouts this season match his career-high set in 2013-14.
Greiss is now tied for fifth in the NHL in save percentage (.928)
