A three-game Central Division road trip wraps up for the Winnipeg Jets tonight in Chicago, and the mission is simple.
Finish with a win, and the Jets will earn themselves a winning record on the trip.
The Jets (12-6-1) sit in a tie with the Colorado Avalanche for second in the division, with the Dallas Stars holding down top spot with 28 points, three ahead of the Jets with three more games played.
Two nights ago, the Jets earned a 5-4 overtime win over those Stars in a somewhat controversial fashion. Dallas tied the game with 20 seconds left with Connor Hellebuyck lying prone with his mask off.
Ultimately, the Jets picked up the victory at three-on-three, but in a division as tight as the Central, Dallas picking up a point could loom large as the season goes on.
"It feels like they got a point that maybe we feel like could have been avoided. At the same time, that's our job," said forward Adam Lowry after Saturday's practice. "You hope that one point is not the difference, but it's our job now to make up that difference, to find games where we might not have it but find a way to get an extra point."

While the Jets have put that game behind them, some of the lessons from it will continue.
Especially if they find themselves with a lead in the third period. This week, the Jets have seen two multi-goal leads erased with the opposition's goaltender pulled, and Lowry feels it all comes down to details.
"We don't have to reinvent the wheel. It's just a little sharper at certain times in the game and that'll be the difference," he said. "We were pretty successful at icing games, to now it's such a razor thin margin for error. You get in a shot lane, you win a face-off, you get the puck down, you get the open net, it changes from giving up five in a week to you've iced two games."
Lowry picked up an assist on Josh Morrissey's second overtime winner of the week, as the Jets forward forced the turnover in the Winnipeg zone which allowed Wheeler to find a streaking Morrissey on the left-wing side.
Morrissey, who leads the Jets with 20 points in 19 games, had his speed on full display as he flew past Jason Robertson before tucking the winner five-hole on Jake Oettinger.
"To see him go from basically our hashmarks to the other end and get four or five feet of separation, or a stick length, is pretty impressive," said Lowry. "To do that and have control and the wherewithal to know where you want to put it to bury it, it's a pretty special goal."
Along with that assist, Lowry added another helper and a goal in the win over Dallas.
It was his second multi-point effort of the season, and Lowry gave full credit to his linemates for the roles they played in that. Mikey Eyssimont's forechecking pressure, Jansen Harkins' finish, and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby's one-touch pass off a point shot to set up Lowry in the slot.
"He's good at getting the puck in behind and putting the pressure on D and forcing turnovers," Jets head coach Rick Bowness said of Jonsson-Fjallby. "We had some great looks off the rush, but we had some Grade A looks on the forecheck as well."
Without a morning skate on Sunday - the team opted for morning meetings instead - Winnipeg's line-up is unclear.
Bowness wouldn't commit to a starting goaltender after Saturday's practice. Hellebuyck took a maintenance day and didn't skate, while David Rittich did take to the ice for the afternoon session at United Center.
There is also a chance that Morgan Barron, who hasn't played since October 30 against Vegas due to wrist surgery earlier this month, could return.
"That's a game-day decision," Bowness said of Barron, who ditched the non-contact jersey on Saturday after wearing it for the past number of days.
Chicago is winless in their past six (0-5-1), and also dropped a 4-0 decision to the Jets on November 5 at Canada Life Centre.
Petr Mrazek will start in goal for Chicago. The 30-year-old has a 3.86 goals-against average and a 1-4-1 record in seven starts this season.
The Jets haven't taken any opponent lightly this season and will continue that level of preparation tonight. They're in the midst of four straight games against divisional opponents, and every point, on every night, is so important.
Puck drop is set for 6 pm CT.
