32 in 32 avalanche fantasy 2026

As part of NHL.com's 32 in 32 series, the fantasy hockey staff ranks the top five Colorado Avalanche players for standard leagues and provides skater points and goalie wins projections for the 2026-27 season.

1. Nathan MacKinnon, F

NHL.com fantasy rank: 2nd

Last season, MacKinnon led the NHL in goals (53), even-strength goals (42), even-strength points (97), shots on goal (350) and finished third in the League in points (127; behind Connor McDavid (138) and Nikita Kucherov (130). MacKinnon and Kucherov are the only players in the NHL with active streaks of four straight 110-point seasons. MacKinnon, who had a career-high 140 in 2023-24, is a close second in NHL.com's fantasy rankings behind McDavid, who had a higher career-best point total in 2022-23 (153).

NHL.com point projection: 130

2. Cale Makar, D

NHL.com fantasy rank: 8th

Makar leads active NHL defensemen in career points per game (1.08; 507 in 470 games) and is coming off his third career 20-goal season. Makar, who will turn 28 years old on Oct. 30, is also a two-time 90-point producer and two-time Norris Trophy winner. Despite being limited to 75 of Colorado's 82 games last regular season, Makar was still among the League's defenseman leaders in assists (59; tied for fourth), power-play points (29; third), even-strength goals (16; third) and even-strength points (50; fifth). He's the top fantasy defenseman and a lock to go in the top 10 overall of any draft.

3. Martin Necas, F

NHL.com fantasy rank: 14th

Necas is coming off the first 100-point season (tied for seventh in NHL) of his career playing on a line with MacKinnon and was quietly tied with McDavid for the most multi-assist games in the entire League last season (17 each). Necas, who's 27 years old, also set career highs in goals (38) and assists (62) last season, ranked second on Colorado in shots on goal (206) and is one of three Avalanche players in the top 15 overall rankings for standard redraft leagues.

NHL.com point projection: 99

4. Scott Wedgewood, G

NHL.com fantasy rank: 54th

Wedgewood, who was 31-6-6 last regular season, had the NHL's best save percentage (.921) and goals-against average (2.02) among goalies to play more than five games and was tied for third in shutouts (four; career high). Wedgewood, who also set career highs in wins and regular-season games played (45), was 7-4 in the playoffs but struggled against the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final (0-3; .877 save percentage in series). But, because of his dominant regular season, Wedgewood remains a fringe top 50 overall fantasy option and is seventh among goalies in NHL.com's rankings at the position.

NHL.com win projection: 28

5. Mackenzie Blackwood, G

NHL.com fantasy rank: 92nd

Blackwood, who missed the start of last season because of injury, was 23-10-2 during last regular season as Colorado's 1B option behind Wedgewood. Among the 51 NHL goalies who played at least 30 games last season, Blackwood ranked eighth in goals-against average (2.51). Blackwood, who also had three shutouts last season (tied for 10th in NHL) and kept the Avalanche in the game during their season-ending loss to the Golden Knights (.923 save percentage; 24 saves on 26 shots faced in Game 4 of Western Conference Final), joins Wedgewood among the top 10 fantasy goalie rankings. For long-term fantasy leagues, it's worth noting Blackwood, who's 29, is younger than Wedgewood, who will turn 34 on Aug. 14.
