Derek Ryan signed a two-year, $1.8 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $900,000.

The 36-year-old forward could have been an unrestricted free agent July 1. He had 20 points (13 goals, seven assists) in 80 regular-season games this season, and three points (one goal, two assists) in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Signed by the Carolina Hurricanes as an undrafted free agent, Ryan has 191 points (76 goals, 115 assists) in 500 regular-season games for the Oilers, Calgary Flames and Hurricanes, and nine points (three goals, six assists) in 41 playoff games.
