New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider will need six weeks to recover after surgery to repair a core muscle injury Tuesday, Devils general manager Ray Shero said Thursday.
Schneider is one of three goalies named to Team USA for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, which starts Sept. 17.

In 58 games Schneider went 27-25-6 with a 2.15 goals-against average and .924 save percentage, and played in the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.
The Devils also announced that forward Patrik Elias had surgery on his right knee Wednesday. There was no timetable announced for his recovery.
Knee injuries limited Elias, 40, to 16 games this season; he had two goals and six assists. He will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Elias is the Devils' all-time leader in goals (408), assists (617), points (1,025), power-play goals (113) and game-winning goals (80). He has played his entire 20-season NHL career with the Devils.
