A second-round draft pick (No. 51) of the Devils in the 1994 NHL Draft, the native of Trebic, Czechoslovakia, went on to become the franchise's seventh captain, its all-time leading scorer and a key contributor to two of its Stanley Cup championship teams.
Elias had 20 points, including a League-leading 13 assists, in 23 postseason games to help the Devils win the 2000 Stanley Cup. Three seasons later, his seven points (three goals) in the Cup Final included a game-winner as the Devils won a seven-game series against the Anaheim Ducks.
The first European-born captain in Devils history, Elias is the Devils longest tenured skater and holds several New Jersey single-season records, as well as those for career goals (408), points (1,025) and assists (617).
Elias is also the Devils' all-time playoff leader in goals (45), assists (80), points (125) and power-play goals (21). He led the Devils in points eight times and in goals four times between the 1999-00 and 2012-13 seasons, and on Jan. 6, 2015, scored his 1,000th NHL point.
One month later, during a 4-1 Devils home win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Elias scored the 400th goal of his NHL career.
