CGY@VGK: Engelland takes lead with seeing-eye drive

LAS VEGAS -- Deryk Engelland's first goal since Dec. 6 broke a tie in the third period, and the Vegas Golden Knights won their fifth straight game, 2-1 against the Calgary Flames at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday.

Engelland ended his 36-game goal drought at 9:30 of the third period when he took a pass at the right point, moved to his left and beat Flames goalie David Rittich with a shot from beyond the face-off circles.
"It's just getting that team win," Engelland said. "I think it doesn't matter who scores the goal, it's the end result that matters. I think our team did a good job of that tonight."

for eighth on the all-time wins list.
Terry Sawchuk
is seventh with 445 victories.
"They're one of the best [teams] in the League, and that was a big challenge for us," said Fleury, who has allowed two goals in his past four starts after allowing 21 in the previous five. "I thought we embraced it. We've been locked in lately, and that was another example of beating a good team here.
"Those games are fun. They're close, they're intense. Fun to win."

Shea Theodore also scored for Vegas (37-26-5), which moved within seven points of the San Jose Sharks for second place in the Pacific Division. William Karlsson had two assists for his first multipoint game since Feb. 7.
"[Fleury] has been playing great lately," Theodore said. "Even through that rough patch of games that we had before going on this kind of streak, we didn't really have his back. It's good to be playing well in front of him. Obviously, he's an amazing goalie."

Calgary (41-19-7) has lost three straight games in regulation for the first time this season after winning seven in a row. Travis Hamonic scored, and Rittich made 36 saves.
"It's going to happen this time of year; things tighten up," Hamonic said. "There's not much room out there. It doesn't matter who you play against, you have to fight through it. It's happening all over the League right now. It's not just in our game."

CGY@VGK: Hamonic goes glove side to even the score

Theodore's power-play goal gave Vegas a 1-0 lead at 8:34 of the first period.
Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau scored at 15:11 of the first period, but Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant won a challenge when replays determined Calgary forward Matthew Tkachuk interfered with Fleury.
"It didn't go our way," Flames coach Bill Peters said. "Fleury sold it pretty good."
Hamonic tied it 1-1 at 11:54 of the second period on a shot from the right circle. The goal ended Fleury's shutout streak at 200:41, the longest of his NHL career.
"This was an intense game, close all night long," Fleury said. "We played the right way and it paid off."

"We're still quite a ways behind, but it was a good team win. It was good to get those two points to build team confidence. Everyone played well tonight. For a full 60 minutes, we were consistent. It builds confidence." -- Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury
