Travis Hamonic signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract to remain with the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $1.1 million.

The 32-year-old defenseman had 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 75 games for the Senators last season. He averaged 18:34 of ice time per game, including 3:16 short-handed, second to Jake Sanderson (3:17) among Ottawa defensemen.

"Travis is a key component of our group," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. "He routinely sets a good example for our younger players with work ethic and accountability, his fearlessness and with a determination level that he seems to exceed each time he steps on the ice. He's a leader with strong character and someone we're very pleased to see returning."

Selected by the New York Islanders in the second round (No. 53) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Hamonic has 229 points (50 goals, 179 assists) in 793 regular-season games for the Islanders, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Senators and four points (one goal, three assists) in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
