NHL veterans shout out to draft picks

The prospects pulling on their new sweaters during the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo on Friday weren't the only players keeping close tabs on the action. Many veteran NHL skaters took to Twitter to weigh in on their future teammates.
When center Auston Matthews of Zurich (Switzerland), via Scottsdale Ariz., was selected by the Maple Leafs with the No. 1 pick, many Toronto players offered their congratulations.

The Winnipeg Jets chose Tappara (Finland) forward Patrik Laine with the No. 2 pick, and some of their standout forwards expressed their joy about him joining their team.

The Columbus Blue Jackets surprised many when they chose Cape Breton (QMJHL) forward Pierre-Luc Dubois with the third pick, but that didn't stop their captain, Nick Foligno, from offering his excitement.

The Arizona Coyotes traded with the Detroit Red Wings to receive Pavel Datsyuk's contract and the No. 16 pick, which the Coyotes used to select Sarnia (OHL) defenseman and Florida-native Jakob Chychrun. Arizona forward Max Domi weighed in.

Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson chided center Logan Brown of Ottawa (OHL), taken 11th by the Senators, for his 6-foot-6 frame.

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn also made a height joke regarding 6-foot-5 forward Riley Tufte of Blaine (Minn.) High School, taken by Dallas with the 25th pick.

Five players from the St. Louis area were selected in the first round, and city native Pat Maroon expressed his pride for his hometown's hockey prowess.

Center Brett Howden of Moose Jaw (WHL) was taken by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 27th pick, and his brother Quinton, who plays for the Florida Panthers, congratulated Brett while acknowledging the new intrastate, intrafamily rivalry.

Finally, Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug, who was not drafted out of either Indiana of the United States Hockey League or Michigan State University, won the night with this tweet.
