BOS@OTT: Krug pots Krejci's feed for OT winner

OTTAWA --Torey Krug scored at 3:07 of overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Sunday.

Krug scored on a one-timer at the right post off a cross-crease pass from David Krejci.
"Krug's] a scorer," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "We've kind of had a chat with him a bit about that: 'I want you to shoot for sticks, I want you to be smart up top, not get shots blocked, but at the same time, when you have a chance to finish, finish.'"

Brad Marchand had a goal and an assist, and Tuukka Rask made 27 saves for Boston (16-10-4), which won both games of a back-to-back (defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 on Saturday).
"Second night of a back-to-back, shortened schedules, it was a tough game for us," Krug said. "It took us a while to kind of wake up there, guys were kind of still in their pre-game naps. Obviously, we responded well. [Rask] kept us in it early, made some great saves down the back end of it, and then we were able to come away with a win."
Mark Stone scored, and Mike McKenna made a career-high 42 saves for Ottawa (13-14-4), which has lost three of its past four games (1-2-1).

BOS@OTT: McKenna denies Donato at the doorstep

"It's tough playing behind [Craig Anderson]," said Senators forward Zack Smith of McKenna's role. "I'm not a goalie, but [Anderson] plays a lot of games, and for backup goaltenders to get one in every eight games or something like that, it can't be easy.
"[Trust] goes both ways. Goaltenders have to have trust in us. If they're going in every night knowing they're going to get shelled, it's tough mentally for them to prepare for that. … Not that either of our goaltenders needed to earn our trust, but it's just great to see that we can have turnovers and he's going to stop breakaways, he's going to stop 3-on-2s, 2-on-1s."
Stone scored on a one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Colin White on a 2-on-1 to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at 12:51 of the first period.

Marchand tied it 1-1 at 7:49 of the second period with a snap shot off a rebound on the power play.
"They (Bruins top line of Marchand-Krejci-David Pastrnak) were on their game," Cassidy said. "They were really good. They had their legs. They were flying. [With Krejci] in the middle, they've been a good line, obviously, and we need them to be."

They said it

"[David Krejci] is a phenomenal player, the way he sees the ice. There's very few players in the League that can slow the game down like that and that have the vision that he does." -- Bruins forward Brad Marchand

EA Sports Overtime Winner: Krug wins it for Boston

"We're still making strides to get where we want to be defensively. … We have to figure that out pretty quick here, but it's nice that we have [Mike Mckenna as a backup to Craig Anderson]. He stood on his head for a lot of the saves tonight." -- Senators forward Zack Smith
"I think we can take some positives, especially with how hard we battled. Even on the [penalty] kills, the way we blocked shots, it was a step for us." -- Senators goalie Mike McKenna

Need to know

Marchand had a season-high nine shots. … Senators coach Guy Boucher said defenseman Dylan DeMelo (upper body) will not travel with the team during their upcoming three-game road trip. Boucher also said defenseman Christian Jaros (lower body) could make the trip, and the team will recall a forward and a defenseman from Belleville of the American Hockey League on Monday.
