Ducks-beat-TBL

TAMPA -- Nick Ritchie and Carter Rowney scored 48 seconds apart in the third period, and Ryan Miller made 34 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.

Josh Manson also scored for the Ducks (11-10-5), who have won three of their past four games.
"We understand that we have more competitiveness in our hockey club than we displayed in our last game (a 5-2 loss at the Nashville Predators on Sunday) and we had to demonstrate that," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "They've got so much offensive power that if you're not in good defensive position and you don't win your share of the battles they can embarrass you."

Brayden Point scored for the Lightning (17-7-1), who had won three in a row. Louis Domingue made 19 saves on 22 shots.
"We had 35 shots and doubled their scoring chances, I thought the boys played pretty well," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "Anaheim is a big team and they can skate. They nullified a few things for us with their size down low, and Ryan Miller played outstanding. He was probably the difference in the game."
Ritchie gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead at 4:51 of the third period with a power-play goal. Pontus Aberg's shot bounced off the glass, and Ritchie tipped the puck while it was in mid-air.

"We did some things well early and got out of the first period 0-0," Miller said. "They've been scoring 3-4 goals in the first for a while. Third period, we had that zone time and made it count."
Rowney, who missed the previous 20 games because of an upper-body injury, made it 3-1 at 5:39.
Miller made key saves against Alex Killorn from right in front of the net at 6:40 and Nikita Kucherov's one-timer at 18:06 while the Lightning were on a power play and had Domingue pulled for an extra attacker.
"We were in good spots and I thought we stayed pretty tight," Miller said. "Even on that 6-on-4, we had two and three guys in the corners and we won those battles. It was good to see."
Josh Manson gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 12:04 of the second period from the low slot after Adam Henrique couldn't stuff the puck past Domingue.

"Way better effort from our team, just better all around," Manson said. "We still took a lot of penalties, but our penalty kill came up big, [Miller] made some big saves and we got the outcome. That's the kind of game we should expect from ourselves every night."
Point tied the game 1-1 at 18:34 of the second period for his 18th goal of the season and 11th in November. He has nine goals in the past seven games.

"I thought the first two periods, it was a back-and-forth game," Lightning forward Ryan Callahan said. "We had a lot of time in their end in the second and couldn't bury some of our chances. They get that one off the glass and another one on the next shift … those were pretty big."

They said it

"They had their chances, but we capitalized on ours. This shows us we can play with teams if we play the right way and come in with a solid effort and play smart." -- Ducks defenseman Josh Manson
"We had our chances. [Miller] makes an outstanding save on Killorn, and we just missed a tap in on a power play. It happens. Usually in a game like that we get three or four [goals]; tonight we got one. Tip your hat to the goalie." -- Lightning coach Jon Cooper
